British and Anglo-Welsh Indoor Championships 2015

Two championship events took place this weekend at Manchester - the Anglo Welsh on Saturday, followed by the British Championships on Sunday. 

Being the most prestigious events of the summer indoor race calendar, a high number of top-level skiers travelled from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England to take part.  There was an exceptionally high level of skiing ability demonstrated on very challenging courses on both days.  Telford members taking part were Charlie Deem, Ellie Jackson, Will Evans and Jordan Fellows, with all delivering some brilliant runs.

Team pro-slalom races also took place on Saturday afternoon with proceeds of this additional race being raised for MacMillan Cancer.  As ever, these were exciting to watch and thoroughly enjoyed by skiers and parents alike.

Podiums for:-
Jordan Fellows 3rd U21 Male at Anglo Welsh; 2nd U21 and 3rd overall male at British. 3rd U21 male for the overall indoor GB series.
Ellie Jackson 3rd U14 female British and 3rd U14 female for the overall indoor GB series. 2nd in team pro-slalom event.

All England 2015 Sunderland

Congratulations to both Lewis Parton & Charlie Deem who obtained podium positions in the most prestigous event of the English summer race calender, Well done to both.

In the under 10s male category a stunning performance from Lewis obtained a well deserved 2nd place on the day , However a little bit of luck and a quirk in the rules saw Lewis taking home the first place trophy. An award once held by Jordan Fellows back in 2007.

In the under 12 males another excellent days work was put in by Charlie deem acquiring a 3rd place podium, Final results showed that 1 hundredth of a second separated 2nd & 3rd Place.

GB races Pontypool

This weekend saw the conclusion of the 2015 outdoor GB race series, with three races taking place at Pontypool, Wales.  Club members taking part were Charlie Deem and Ellie Jackson.

The slope is in a lovely setting, surrounded by park land.  A very steep slope with the remnants of a huge tree at the bottom/in the middle of the slope .... obviously well padded to ensure the safety of skiers.

The weather was, in the main, warm and sunny, resulting in a number of rather "healthy looking" faces on both days!!!!! Extremely well run events, three races were held : GB race 4 - slalom.  GB race 5 - GS.  GB race 6 - slalom.

Well done to both skiers who delivered some amazing runs on very challenging courses.  Results as follows:-

Charlie - 3rd GB5
Ellie - 3rd GB4; 2nd GB5 and 1st GB6

Final Race of the Stoke Fun race series

The final race of the 2015 summer series, took place on Saturday in dry and sunny weather.  Telford was represented by:-

Lewis Parton, Finlay Broomhall, Shayne Dawson Dymond, Adam Simcox, Sophie Broomhall, Tuesday Rushworth, Charlie Deem, Jack Simcox, Sonny Rushworth, Josh Law and Ed Guy.

A fantastic day was had by all skiers and parents, with some improved times on the day and exciting head to heads. Podiums for, Lewis (1^st U8 men), Sophie (3^rd U10 ladies), Charlie (1^st U10 men), Josh (1^st U12 men), Ed (3^rd U14 men).

Team dual slaloms followed, (with Sonny being in the winning team), whilst the overall series points were determined.  These are based on results from all four races, in both the individual and head to head races.  There were some close calls for this series, resulting in Charlie and Ed racing their nearest opponents in deciding races to determine the overall rankings for their age categories.  Overall series winners were as follows:-

Lewis 1^st U8 men; Sophie 3^rd U10 ladies; Charlie 1^st U10 men;Josh 1^st U12 men; Ed 2^nd U14 men;

Christian 3^rd U19 men.

 

Well done to all our skiers who have taken part in the series and delivered some fantastic skiing and results.  These really are a great introduction to ski racing.  As soon as 2016 dates are announced, we will post on the notice board and email to everyone.  Meanwhile, if you would like any more information regarding these races or any other opportunities, please speak to one of your committee members.

Pendle ski racing

Pendle Club National (CN) took place on Saturday with Ellie Jackson and Will Evans taking part.  Pendle is a beautiful rural setting with unusual green matting to blend in with the surroundings.  Known for its variable weather conditions, due to its location, we were blessed with mainly sun on Saturday, with increasing wind speeds in the afternoon…..Only one gazebo was seen to be airborne on this occasion.... with a number of parents attached to each side, trying to secure safely back to the ground!!!!!

Well done to Will, taking part in his first outdoor CN, completing some great runs in the highly competitive U18 males.  Congratulations to Ellie, who was first U14 girl.

Having been selected for the CESA regional teams last month, Sunday saw Will, Ellie and Josh Law taking part in the Inter Regional Championships.  A first for all three skiers, it was great to see everyone having so much fun in the team events, with exceptional volumes of cheering for team mates and friends.  Kind regards Helen
