British Artificial Championships 2014

As the summer race calendar starts to draw to an end, Telford Ski Club headed to Pontypool today, for the British Artificial Championships.  Represented by Grace, Ellie and Matt, the day delivered some interesting challenges for all racers, on two extremely different and difficult courses!  After a high number of DSQs, DNFs, wipe outs (including only 50% of forerunners completing the second course), Ellie and Grace both skied into silver position for their respective age groups.  Matt achieved an admiral 5th position in the U12 boys category.  Charlie Deem, who skied at Pontypool yesterday in the Welsh Championships, also achieved 5th in the highly contested U10 boys category.

Stoke Fun Race Series - Race 3

The third race of the 2014 series took place 6.9.14.  As ever, it was a great day with the dual slaloms seeing some fantastic competition between skiers with similar times.  Podiums for Ben Wakefield (2nd U8 male):  Lewis Parton (3rd U8 male):  Charlie Deem (1st U10 male):  Ellie Jackson (1st U12 female), fastest girl on the day:  Josh Law (2nd U12 boy) and Tom Harper (3rd U14 male).  Andrew Webb narrowly missed out on 3rd place, skiing brilliantly in the head to head races, winning two of his three events. 

The final race takes place in October.  These races are well run and perfect for younger or newer racers.   With a "wooden balance course" available  free of charge, there is plenty to keep younger skiers entertained.  It would be great to see more racers representing our club at the last race, so please let me know if you would like more information.  Helen

Race 5 BIGP & European Indoor Championships

Final Race of the British indoor Grand Prix was held at SnoZone castleford on Saturday 16.08.14
and the European Indoor Championships was held at the same venue on the Sunday. The Venue was well attended and some decent racing was displayed from all competitors. Telford was represented by the usual suspects who all fought hard to do their club proud.

A Special mention for Charie Deem who received the most promising male mini trophy. Take a look at pic below the trophy is almost as big as Charlie!!.

Races 3 & 4 BIGP series

Races 3 & 4 of the BIGP series, took place at Castleford on 19 and 20 July.  As ever, the races were extremely well run with some fun team dual slalom's on the Saturday afternoon.  Due to high numbers of racers, all age groups were well contested.  Well done to Charlie Deem, Ellie Jackson and Josh Law who all represented Telford Ski Club, with Charlie achieving podiums in the U10 male category on both days.  Full results can be found on the brit ski website.  The next races are on 16 & 17 August and details on how to enter can be found at:- http://www.britishindoorgrandprixseries.org.uk/index.php

Final outdoor GBR race 2014

The 6th and final race of the outdoor GBR series took place at Gloucester, on Sunday 6th July.  Telford Ski Club was represented by Ed, Chris, Matt, Grace, Ellie and Jamie Conde.  Aided by the new "team race moustaches", Telford delivered some excellent runs in what was a highly competitive event.  Podiums for Grace (1st U16 girls) and Ellie (2nd U14 girls).  Celebrations with ice creams and lollies followed for skiers, to cool down in the afternoon sun.  Not sure what happened to Grace and Ellie ...................!!!!  Helen

Gloucester & Midland Club National Weekend June 2014

Course inspection with the a large field of racers!.

Saturday 28th June was the date for the Midland Club National held at Gloucesters excellent slope.
Telford racers in attendance were Isobel & Elinor Drummond, Joshua Law, Charlie Deem , Grace & Matthew Williams.  Over the last few years this race has proven to be popular with the dryslope racing community especially so for 2014 with nearly 150 racers competing. Weather was typically British weather switching all day from Bright Sunshine to light rain showers. Coat on, Coat off , Repeat.  Telford Racers were on excellent form with many individuals just missing podiums.

Sunday 29th June saw the sun coming up on the Gloucester Club National. Weather behaved itself with Bright Sun, Suncream and shorts in abundance. This is how summer should be. Telford Racers were in the thick of it again but due to a little bit of bad luck Telford were denied any podiums. It was great to see Ellen Brown competing again in the U21 class.

If any of the younger telford racers, ideally those with a little experience at stoke fun races feel ready to move to Nationals races this is one to target. Telford will usually support the Gloucester races. If you are interested for 2015 have a word with myself , Helen or Jamie and we will make sure we are their to guide you through.
